These nature inspired colorful enamel leaf earrings begin with pure copper, they are torch fired with several layers of vitreous glass enamel. Enamel color scheme is either shifted or sprinkled on carefully while holding the hot enamel with a rod.
Handcrafted in USA.
WHAT IS ENAMELED COPPER?
Enameling is glass fused to metal at high heat. Enamels are finely ground glass, like fine sand (or even more finely pulverized and mixed with an oil or adhesive). They may be opaque or transparent; their colors come from the use of various oxides. Enamel is fused to metal with torch firing, the metal is heated by dangling it in the flame and dipper into enamel, or the enamel is shifted onto it. Then the copper is heated again to complete the fusing process.
How to care for enameled copper: Enamel is glass, not paint, so it does not fade under ultraviolet light. There is no particular care needed, you can wash it with water and/or wipe it with a cloth if needed.
