These open teardrop enameled copper earrings are torch fired with several layers of enamel. On the last layer I add a separation enamel that creates wonderful designs exposing some of the underlying color.
The hoop teardrop shape is 1 1/4″. (If you choose copper earwires please note, it is a softer metal, so the earwires are not as springy and/or can bend easier.)
WHAT IS ENAMELED COPPER?
Enameling is glass fused to copper at high heat. Enamels are finely ground glass, like fine sand, also referred to as vitreous enamel. Enameled copper has a durable, glossy finish that doesn’t fade under ultraviolet light. Enamels may be opaque or transparent, the colors come from the use of various oxides. Enameled surface is durable and has a variety of color effects depending on angle of light.
Enameled jewelry can be cleaned with water and a mild detergent if needed. Please do not drop onto a hard surface like tile or cement as this may cause chipping just like if you dropped a piece of glass jewelry.
