Bright and sunny poppy flower Marimekko fabric purse shoulder bag with a zip inside pocket. This is Marimekko’s most famous design, the iconic “Unikko” by Maija Isola. This version of the small Unikko is created with orange, pink, yellow – beautiful bright happy color combination. The bag design is my version of a mid size shoulder purse with a modern flair. The bag has a braided strap section to provide extra cushioning and easy handling. There is one inside zip pocket made with a contrasting green fabric, magnetic snap closure. Fabric design by Marimekko, Unikko by Maija Isola, Finland.
The fabric is high quality cotton, lining fabric is quilting weight cotton. Washable. This bag can go in very small space because it is fabric, there is no interfacing (the material used to make cloth bags stiff), except for a tiny piece at the magnetic snap to provide extra durability. If you pack it tight you can iron it or hang it up for a day to remove any wrinkles.
10″ high, 14″ wide, the strap is 27 inches total. The bag has gussets on the bottom for nice shape (and more room!)
I would recommend washing separately for the first two times and don’t let fabric lay on itself while drying (to prevent color transfer).
This is how Marimekko lists general care instructions for their cottons:
“Wash separately in plenty of water the first few times to remove any excess dye that may have remained on the fabric surface. Do not soak, machine wash hot at 140F/60C, do not use chlorine bleach, do not tumble dry, iron hot, dry clean allowed.”
Handcrafted in Maine.

About MARIMEKKO
Marimekko is a Finnish design house based in Helsinki renowned for its original prints and colors. Marimekko has made important contributions to fashion, especially in the 1960s. It is particularly noted for brightly colored printed fabrics and simple styles, used both in women’s garments and in home furnishings. Marimekko’s bold fabrics and bright, simple design strongly influenced late 20th-century taste. Many of the early Marimekko designs, including Maija Isola’s Unikko, remain in production today. They were made famous in the United States by Jacqueline Kennedy, who bought eight Marimekko dresses which she wore throughout the 1960 United States presidential campaign.
Today Marimekko is a leading textile company, producing fabrics, clothing and home furnishings. They have stores all over the world – from United States and Europe to Japan and Australia.
