SILVER FILLED – like Full Sterling
Wondering what the difference is between plated and filled wire? It’s huge. Silver filled wire has 1/10 ratio of silver, that is hundreds of times thicker and more durable than Silver Plated.
Silver Filled is 1/10 or 10% by silver weight. The sterling is bonded to a brass core (CDA #220; 90% copper/10% zinc). I like to use the silver filled wire for bracelets because they are exposed to more stress than other jewelry, just because you move and use your arms a lot during the day. This way you get a more durable product than something that is made using just plated wire.
ABOUT DENIM LAPIS:
Denim Lapis is a paler blue variety of Lapis Lazuli, the color difference is caused by a greater calcite content. Lapis Lazuli is one of the most sought after stones in use since man’s history began. Its deep, celestial blue remains the symbol of royalty and honor, gods and power, spirit and vision. It is a universal symbol of wisdom and truth.
In ancient times Lapis Lazuli was most highly regarded because of its beautiful color and the valuable ultramarine dye derived from it. Its name comes from the Latin lapis, “stone,” and the Persian lazhuward, “blue.” It is rock formed by multiple minerals, mostly Lazurite, Sodalite, Calcite and Pyrite, and is a rich medium to royal blue with gold flecks (pyrites). Lower-grade Lapis is lighter blue with more white than gold flecks, and is sometimes called denim Lapis.
It is fairly tough, takes an excellent polish, and is dark enough not to be a problem in color coordination with clothes.
Lapis Lazuli is a stone of communication that can bring truthfulness, openness, and mental clarity. It is used to help you say just the right thing, as if by magic.
