This Ginkgo leaf pendant is a real ginkgo leaf found in nature that was electroformed with a layer of copper. A layer of copper is formed using an electrolytic bath, it is essentially transported from a solid copper to an object using electricity. The layer of copper forms slowly over many hours of time. All the natural shape is remaining in its organic beautiful form. One of a kind, truly special piece.

Electroforming is a metal forming process where metal is grown by electrodeposition onto a substrate. The electrolytic bath is used to deposit metal onto a conductive surface. In other words you are growing a layer of copper (or other metal) onto an object that has a conductive coating. The machine used to conduct the copper is called a rectifier. The end result is a natural surface of pure copper. This is such an awesome process to do and observe, and you can preserve a great variety of nature’s objects and set gemstones this way.
